For almost 100 years, Roadtrain has built its reputation on reliability and strong customer relationships. A Legacy Built on Reliability

Roadtrain’s journey began in the 1930s with a single horse and cart, and has since evolved into a highly capable, dependable and trusted transport operation serving Ireland and the UK. Today, the company operates a large and sophisticated fleet, built on a long‑standing reputation for reliability and strong customer relationships.

As the business expanded – particularly across UK–Ireland routes – Roadtrain recognised the need for a modern, scalable transport management solution that support growth without compromising service quality. Eureka’s MoveIT TMS Transport Management System became the foundation of that transformation.

 

Rapid Growth Created the Need for Change

When Sharon deMonge, joined Roadtrain as Sales Manager 13 years ago, the company was operating solely within Ireland. Sharon was tasked with establishing a UK service – a move that took off rapidly, and became the company’s General Manager in 2025

Within six weeks we had started our UK service. Within a year, we had to get a UK office in Liverpool,” Sharon explains.

This growth quickly highlighted the limitations of Roadtrain’s existing transport management system.

It was such a basic programme, and it was holding us back. We needed a proper upgrade, and that’s what led us to Eureka.”

Around 11 years ago, Roadtrain implemented MoveIT TMS selecting it for its flexibility, depth of functionality and ability to evolve alongside the business.

 

Since bringing in MoveIT, we’ve worked closely with the team in Wexford, to ensure that the system truly works for Roadtrain, and our operation.”

I’m fortunate to work with our Managing Director, Kristian Connolly, who is constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance the service we deliver to our customers.

We wanted to move away from our antiquated system and find a partner that truly demonstrated innovation,” says Sharon. “We saw that immediately with Eureka – a company willing to align with our needs and grow alongside us.”

Rather than an off-the-shelf system, MoveIT was configured through close collaboration between Roadtrain and Eureka’s development and customer support teams.

“With Eureka, it wasn’t about buying a programme off the shelf. If we spot something, we ask: ’Could we so this?’, the answer was usually, yes.”

Planning Improvements: Drag-and-Drop, Time Windows & Backload Visibility

MoveIT now plays a central role in Roadtrain’s daily planning operations. Visual drag-and-drop scheduling – introduced with direct input from Roadtrain – replaced paper-based methods and significantly simplified planning

I think that idea actually came from us,recalls Sharon “Being able to drag and drop loads instead of writing everything down made things so much easier.”

Planners also benefit from:

✔ Performance tracking, helping maintain Roadtrain’s 98.5% on-time delivery rate.

MoveIT gives us visibility and early warnings, helping us stay on target.”

Roadtrain is also rolling out MoveIT’s Backload Selector, which automatically identifies nearby future collections after a delivery – reducing empty miles and planner workloads.

If a truck delivers in, for example, Belfast, MoveIT will show compatible loads within a 50-mile radius – 20 miles away, 30 miles away, whichever suits best,” explains Sharon.

“It makes matching collections so much easier.”

 

Accurate Pricing, Faster Invoicing and Big Time Savings

Roadtrain uses MoveIT to price all jobs within the TMS, with automatic rate-card validation. Any mismatch is flagged immediately and reviewed via an automated daily report.

It safeguards invoicing,explains Sharon. “Every morning, I see what didn’t match so we can make sure everything is priced correctly.”

Batch invoicing for high-volume customers has delivered major time savings.

Some customers have 20 loads a week. I used to invoice each one individually – it was ridiculous! Now we generate a single invoice for everything, with a full breakdown attached. It saves us at least two hours.”

 

Better Customer Communication and Transparency

All booking emails, approvals, PODs and additional charges are stored directly against each job in MoveIT. This provides:

  • Faster dispute resolution
  • Easy access to historic records
  • Reduced reliance on individual staff
  • Clear, transparent customer billing

Years ago, we’d have to dig through hundreds of emails to find something. Now everything is in the job. Anybody with access can now open it and send the POD, MoveIT has made everything so much more accessible.”

MoveIT also automatically manages fuel surcharges and additional costs – including customs, ferry ETS and Dublin port infrastructure charges – updated monthly, all clearly itemised on invoices.

We have a simple surcharge mechanism that gets updated every month. It calculates whatever percentage that we need. It makes job pricing smoother, fairer and fully transparent.”

 

Integrations Ferry Customs Operations

Roadtrain uses MoveIT integrations with CLDN and Stena Line to gain daily visibility of ferry bookings across Ireland and the UK.

Sharon summarised it perfectly, “The integration between our MoveIT TMS and ferry systems provides full daily visibility of all bookings, ensuring greater operational control and transparency.”

In addition, this integration enables our Customs department to share all relevant documentation with clients at the click of a button. As a result, both our Irish and UK teams can maximise efficiency while consistently maintaining the highest standards of service quality.”

The Eureka Ferry & Shipping Module gives transport operators full control over every leg of a journey by integrating MoveIT TMS directly with major ferry companies including Irish Ferries, P&O, Seatruck, Eurotunnel, and DFDS.

It enables users to book, amend and cancel sailings in real time, receive live ferry status updates (including check-in, customs clearance, departure and arrival), and benefit from automatic invoice imports and reconciliation, all from within MoveIT. This centralised, two-way communication streamlines planning, reduces manual admin, improves visibility, and ensures seamless management of cross border transport operations.

It’s not a rigid system”, Sharon says. “It can be configured exactly how we need it, and we’re always refining it with Eureka. Not all systems are this flexible.”
